Spring Landscaping Checklist for Massachusetts Homes
A practical spring yard checklist covering cleanup, edging, mulch, soil, lawn repair, and early-season planting.

Start with a full property walk before the first big cleanup. Look for winter debris, broken branches, plow damage, compacted lawn edges, drainage trouble, and garden beds that need reshaping.
What to know
Clear leaves and sticks from lawn areas, beds, walkways, and basement-window wells. Once the site is clean, redefine bed edges and refresh mulch at a modest depth so plants can breathe while weeds stay down.
Spring is also the right time to repair bare lawn spots. Rake loose soil, add loam where needed, seed, water consistently, and keep foot traffic off new growth. For larger damaged areas, sod can create a cleaner result faster.
Finish by checking shrubs, perennials, and small trees. Remove dead material, prune cautiously, and wait on aggressive trimming until you know what is actively growing.
